The Victoria government is seeking comment on changes to the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 to regulate residential tenancy databases. They are currently not regulated in Victoria.

These electronic databases are privately owned and store a tenant’s renting history. They are used by real estate agents to select prospective tenants.

The regulation of residential tenancy databases in all states and territories is being reformed to ensure national consistency and fairness.
