Consumer Affairs Victoria has developed the following curriculum resources that are aligned to the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS).

Most of these resources are also linked to the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). The materials focus on life skills that enable young people to become smart consumers.

PDF versions of the resource materials are available for download from the links below. Alternatively, printed copies can be ordered by completing and returning a teacher resource order form.
    Commerce Resource Book for Teachers
    How to make consumer choices, going shopping, affluenza, consumers and the marketplace, how to be a consumer detective, consumer rights and responsibilities, managing your money, and the global consumer. Also linked to VCAL.

    Consuming Planet Earth Resource Book for Teachers
    Environmental and sustainability issues concerning consumers, including buying 'green', the real cost of food, smarter transport options, and the consuming culture. Also linked to VCAL.

    English Resource Book for Teachers
    Exploring different types of text, the lure of advertising, informative and instructional writing on credit and shopping, making a complaint, and reading the fine print. Also linked to VCAL.

    Health & Wellbeing Resource Book for Teachers
    Curriculum material for teachers of Health, Home Economics, Food and Technology, Physical Education, VCAL Personal Development, Health and Human Development. Also linked to VCAL.

    Maths Resource Book for Teachers
    Budgeting, buying things, paying bills (such as phone bills), credit, and loans.

    Coming soon - Responsible Gambling Resource Book for Teachers
    This new resource will be available in late November 2009.
    Applied Learning Handbook
    Consumer Affairs Victoria has also developed an Applied Learning Handbook comprised of units of work that utilise activities from the Resource Books in an integrated format.

    A PDF version of the handbook is available for download below. It covers integrated units of work on consumer issues such as body image, shopping rights, mobile phones, buying a car, scams and sustainable consumerism. Linked to VCAL and VELS.

Consumer Affairs Victoria can visit your school
Consumer Affairs Victoria offers FREE speakers and information sessions to schools and community groups. The information presented focuses on consumers’ rights and responsibilities under consumer law.
