2008 Review
In 2008 the Estate Agents Council achieved the following:
- Monitored the operation of the Estate Agents Act 1980 and the efficiency and effectiveness of the real estate industry regulations;
- Maintained a watching brief on the practice of underquoting in the Victorian real estate sector and the impact of CAV’s Guidelines for Real Estate Salespeople –Price Advertising and Underquoting;
- Completed the Real Estate Agency Market Segmentation Study as part of its Victorian Licensing System Review;
- Concluded its Review ino the Acceptance of Bids After the Fall of the Hammer;
- Continued to make recommendations to the Minister regarding Victorian Property Fund grant applications;
- The Council also convened working groups to consider emerging issues going into the future, such as the virtual office, national harmonisation and professional indemnity insurance.
2009 Agenda
In 2009 the Estate Agent Council's priorities will be:
- To monitor the operation of the Act and real estate industry regulations in the market place;
- Consider matters related to Victorian Property Fund grant applications as per section 76 of the Act;
- Continue its work regarding the emerging issue of the virtual office;
- Modernising the Estate Agents Act 1980 Review;
- Analysing the legislative framework which regulates the conduct of estate agents and how this will be impacted by the changes to licensing arrangements at the national level.
The Estate Agents Council looks forward to continuing to advise the Minister on developing issues, respond to references and make recommendations on Victorian Property Fund grant applications. The Council welcomes the opportunity to work with the Minister, CAV and industry and consumer stakeholders to achieve our common goal of a robust and equitable Victorian real estate sector.
