This information will be used to help local councils improve rooming house conditions and take action against illegal rooming house operators that fail to register or comply with health and safety standards.

What is a rooming house?

A rooming house or boarding house is a building in which four or more people, who are not related to the landlord, have separate agreements to pay rent.

By law rooming houses must be registered with the local council and meet health and safety standards.

Everyone has the right to live in clean and safe accommodation.
