Change business details

You must notify Consumer Affairs Victoria of any changes in the details of a registered business name within a month of the change occurring.

This includes changes to the:

  • registered, business or postal address
  • ownership of the business (note: the Change of business details form must be signed by the owner who is leaving)
  • business owner's residential address
  • business owner's personal name
  • nature of the business.

To carry on business under a different business name, you must:

  1. cancel your current business name
  2. register a new business name.

You cannot use the Change of business details form or online form to change your business name.

Please note: We will not accept any changes of business details online or by post after Tuesday, 22 May 2012, or in person after 25 May 2012. Counter is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm (except public holidays).

There is no fee for lodging a Change of business details form.

You cannot change your business details over the phone.

We do not automatically issue a new business name certificate after you lodge a Change of business details form. You can apply for a new business name certificate or a business name extract; however, a fee is payable.
