‘Invalid Fax Received by RTBA - Calling Line Identification set to Anonymous’ notice

You will receive an ‘invalid fax’ notice if the Residential Tenancies Bond Authority (RTBA) receives a document from your fax machine or fax line where the Calling Line Identification (CLI) is set to ‘Anonymous’.

If your agency is not registered to use the RTBA Fax Facility, do not fax any documents to the RTBA until your agency is registered.

If your agency is registered to use the RTBA Fax Facility, the Anonymous setting may arise where there has been a change to your telephone system preventing the fax number from being revealed.

To resolve the issue you may need to do the following:

  • Where the fax machine is connected to a Private Automated Branch Exchange (PABX), have your PABX re-programmed to reveal the CLI.
  • If your telecommunications provider has hidden the CLI (similar to how mobile phones can be set to ’private‘), and your fax line is not connected to a PABX, ask your provider to reveal the CLI.
Do not send any faxes to the RTBA Fax Facility until the CLI has been revealed.
