Making a repayment claim against an Electronic Transactions (ET) bond

Repayment on an ET bond (private contribution) held by the Residential Tenancies Bond Authority (RTBA)

After the agent and tenants have agreed on repayment amounts, the agent will submit the transaction via the RTBA Online website. The RTBA will then SMS and email the tenant, who must:

  1. follow the link in their email to the RTBA Online website
  2. agree to the terms and conditions
  3. review the repayment information and select 'Accept Details'
  4. select 'Yes' to accept the transaction details in the pop-up window

The tenant will see a confirmation that the transaction is complete.

Repayment on an ET Director of Housing (DoH) bond

An ET can be used to make a repayment on a bond funded from a DoH loan, if 100 per cent of the bond is to be repaid to the DoH. As this transaction does not require the tenant's approval, the tenant will not receive an email asking them to review the ET.

An ET cannot be used to claim a repayment on a bond funded from a DoH loan, if any part of the bond is to be repaid to the agent. A paper form must be used, accompanied by a copy of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) order directing the RTBA how to repay the bond.
