Signing blank bond claim forms

The Residential Tenancies Bond Authority (RTBA)'s Bond Claim form advises tenants, agents and landlords to not sign it until each payment amount has been entered.

Signing a blank Bond Claim form is like signing a blank cheque; it means that the other parties can claim any amount while it appears that the registered tenants have given their consent for the claim.

It is an offence for a landlord or agent to ask or obtain a tenant's signature on a Bond Claim form that does not state the amount to be claimed or refunded.
