Timeframe for submitting a Bond Claim form

The legislation does not set a timeframe for an agent or landlord to submit a Bond Claim form to the Residential Tenancies Bond Authority (RTBA). However, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) has deemed 10 business days as a fair and reasonable timeframe.

If your agent/landlord or rooming house owner takes longer than 10 business days to submit the Bond Claim form, you can make an application to VCAT to have your bond returned. The agent will be invited to the hearing and you can withdraw the application at any time. You must attend the hearing.

This is a free service to you and hearings are normally heard within 2-3 weeks.

If you are awarded the bond at the end of the hearing, you must send in the VCAT order, along with a Bond Claim form, signed by the tenants, to:
