Consumer Affairs Victoria, Victorian Building Authority, Worksafe Victoria, Energy Safe Victoria and the Environment Protection Authority Victoria are working together on the Build Aware program.

This joint initiative will be inspecting building, construction and demolition sites in Geelong and on the Surf Coast, to ensure operators are complying with the law.

Build Aware aims to ensure that people working on sites understand their obligation to comply with building, construction, environment, plumbing, and occupational health and safety laws and regulations.

Inspectors will visit sites from Monday 20 February to Friday 24 February.

An information breakfast will also be held on February 17 at 7:00am at the Mitre 10 store in South Geelong. This is an opportunity for locals in the building industry to hear more from the regulators about what the Build Aware program will involve, and ask questions directly.

Geelong and the Surf Coast were selected for the program as they are both areas experiencing significant growth. Other regional centres will be visited in future.
