A builder has been fined $2500 and ordered to pay $1500 compensation for carrying out substandard building work while unregistered.

Christopher Ackerley pleaded guilty in Seymour Magistrates Court to six charges under the Fair Trading Act 1999, Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995 and the Building Act 1993.

Mr Ackerley was not a registered builder when he entered a contract to build a wall at a house in Seymour.

He was fined $2500, with court costs of $752, and ordered to pay $1500 compensation to the consumer.
