A new service to help builders and building owners resolve building disputes commences today.
Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV) is an independent government agency that will provide free, fair and fast building dispute resolution services.
Replacing Building and Advice Conciliation Victoria (BACV), DBDRV will operate under a new legislative scheme, with expanded powers and a broader scope.
These powers include the authority to issue dispute resolution orders, which can compel builders to fix or finish work, or require building owners to pay for work that has been correctly completed.
As a mandatory dispute resolution service, DBDRV will aim to decrease the number of disputes reaching the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), reducing the time and cost burdens on parties to a dispute.
