An unregistered builder from Taylors Lakes has been convicted, fined $500 and ordered to pay court costs of nearly $900.
Ihsan El-Chakik pleaded guilty in Werribee Magistrates Court on 10 August to three breaches of the Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995. The breaches involved entering into a major domestic building contract when not registered as a builder, having a contract which did not comply with the Act and demanding an excessive deposit.
The charges arose out of a contract to perform landscaping work at a house in Derrimut.
Mr El-Chakik was ordered to pay the $500 fine and court costs of $894 by 7 March.
