Rooming house operator Mintrell Pty Ltd has been fined more than $19,000 after pleading guilty to 15 breaches of the Residential Tenancies Act 1997.
The rooming house operator pleaded guilty in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court to four charges each of:
- preparing or authorising the preparation of written tenancy agreement which was not in the prescribed form
- failing to complete bond lodgement form and give it to tenants to sign
- failing to give bond and completed bond lodgement form to the Residential Tenancies Bond Authority.
Mintrell Pty Ltd also pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to provide a condition report to the tenant and one count of failing to comply with a Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal determination to refund bond monies to tenants.
The court imposed a total fine of $19,328.40 and ordered the rooming house operator to pay $656.42 costs.
In December 2011, Mintrell Pty Ltd was convicted and fined $4889 after breaching the Residential Tenancies Act 1997.
