Licensed estate agent Charles Su has been fined $3500 for permitting two companies - Portal Property Group Pty Ltd and Su Property Group Pty Ltd - to carry on business as estate agents without a licence to do so.
Mr Su pleaded guilty in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court to permitting Portal Property Group Pty Ltd and Su Property Group Pty Ltd to carry on business as an unlicensed estate agent, contravening the Estate Agents Act 1980.
Portal Property Group was a licensed estate agent but its licence expired on 14 February 2011 and was not renewed.
Between 1 March 2012 and 1 November 2012, Portal operated as a real estate agent by advertising properties for sale on behalf of others, negotiating the letting of properties and collecting rents. It did not have a trust account. During that time, Mr Su also conducted estate agency business through Su Property Group, which was also unlicensed.
The court fined Mr Su $3500 without conviction and ordered him to pay $1500 costs.
Portal Property Group and Su Property were previously fined $20,000 each in June 2013.
