The Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019 (the Act) commenced on 1 July 2021. This Act requires you to be registered with the Business Licensing Authority (BLA) to provide professional engineering services in or for Victoria, unless you work under the direct supervision of a registered practising professional engineer or only in accordance with a prescriptive standard. For more information, view Overview and timeline.
Electrical engineers – registration becomes mandatory on 1 June 2023. To continue providing professional engineering services, you must lodge a registration application with the BLA by 1 June 2023. If you do not lodge an application by this date, you must cease providing professional engineering services until you lodge an application and it is approved. You should take the first step to register now.
Start your registration process now
Registration is a two-step process which may take up to four months to complete.
- You must apply to an assessment entity to have your qualifications and experience or competencies assessed. This process may take up to 90 days. You will need to provide the correct documentation or requested information that satisfies the requirements for assessment.
- You must lodge a registration application with the Business Licensing Authority through myCAV.
Processing the application may take up to 28 days depending on application volumes. You will need to provide a copy of your Professional Engineer Registration Victoria – Report on Outcome of Qualifications and Experience Assessment report, which you will get from the assessment entity.
We recommend that electrical engineers commence the process to apply for registration now to avoid any delay in lodging your professional engineer’s registration application by 1 June 2023.
You should take the first step of applying to an assessment entity by 30 March at the latest.
