A Preston woman has been ordered to cease acting as a conveyancer, shut down her website and pay around $900 in costs, following court action by Consumer Affairs Victoria.

We took action against Meganita Marannu, 29, and Bonzi Group Pty Ltd (ACN: 169 975 759) in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court, after receiving information that Ms Marannu and her company were operating a conveyancing business, when neither was licensed to do so.

The court's final orders follow an interim injunction that we sought last year.

Ms Marannu's conveyancer's licence was cancelled in May 2016, after she pleaded guilty to and was convicted on seven charges relating to tax evasion and obtaining a financial advantage by deception. Bonzi Group has never held a conveyancer's licence.

Under Victorian law, conveyancers must be licensed with the Business Licensing Authority. For more information, view our Public register of licensed conveyancers page.

If you have had conveyancing work done by Ms Marannu since her licence was cancelled, contact us on 1300 55 81 81.

Hearing date: 2 August 2016
