A former Altona North company has been penalised $60,000 for supplying banned miniature motor bikes (commonly known as monkey bikes) and other products that did not comply with Australian safety standards.

Consumer Affairs Victoria took action in the Federal Court of Australia to restrain Nightingale Electrics Pty Ltd and its director, George Anderson, 73, from selling or supplying banned goods.

Other non-compliant goods sold by the company included:

  • trolley jacks
  • car jacks
  • vehicle support stands
  • sunglasses
  • electric luggage straps
  • aquatic toys
  • portable swimming pools.

Nightingale Electrics and Mr Anderson were also ordered to pay court costs of $15,000.

The court has also permitted Consumer Affairs Victoria to destroy the non-compliant goods, which were seized in April 2014.
