Background
The Rooming House Operators Act 2016 was passed on 10 May 2016 and is awaiting proclamation to come into effect. The Act and associated Regulations establish a licensing scheme for rooming house operators.

Fees
Under the Act, fees for the rooming house operators licensing scheme must be prescribed.
The four main types of fees are the:
- application for a licence fee and renewal of licence fee
- licence fee
- fee for a copy of, or extract from, the register
- fee for a certified copy of, or extract from, the register.

Notices to vacate
Notices to vacate that are prescribed under the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 will need to be given by rooming house operators under certain circumstances.
Amendments to these notices are proposed to provide guidance to rooming house operators on the use of the notices.
