The Melbourne Magistrate’s Court has made final injunctions against a Mentone man on 15 March, restraining him from carrying out conveyancing work while unlicensed.

Michael Anthony Prichard, trading as MBCM & Associates and Parkdale Conveyancing, was found to have breached the Conveyancers Act 2006 and the Fair Trading Act 1999 by operating as a conveyancer without a licence, and falsely representing that he was a licensed conveyancer. The breaches occurred between 1 July 2008 and 1 September 2009.

The court made orders including that Mr Prichard be restrained from carrying on a conveyancing business or such legal work, advertising or holding himself out as a conveyancer and using the name “Parkdale Conveyancing” until 15 March 2016. All the injunction orders apply unless he becomes a licensed conveyancer.

Mr Prichard was ordered to pay $8754 costs in addition to $859 he was previously ordered to pay in January.

The court also ordered that Mr Prichard publish a notice to consumers in both a daily newspaper and a local newspaper highlighting the court’s finding.
