A Swan Hill truck dealer has been ordered to pay nearly $50,000 in penalties for selling a Kenworth truck that had a loan of more than $100,000 owing on it.

PR Truck Sales Pty Ltd pleaded guilty in Swan Hill Magistrates’ Court on 18 August to criminal charges of failing to discharge the loan on a truck before selling it.

The company admitted breaches of the Motor Car Traders Act 1986, including selling a vehicle with a loan on it and not making required entries in the dealings book.

The company was released without conviction on an undertaking to donate $8500 to Swan Hill Hospital, pay $40,000 to the Motor Car Traders Guarantee Fund, and court costs of $400.

Licensed motor car traders are required to show that vehicles have a clear title and are not stolen, written off, or have money owing on them.
