Hoppers Crossing scrap metal business Westgate Metal Recycling Pty Ltd has been restrained from operating as an unlicensed motor car trader.

The company had offered cars for sale on eBay while not holding a motor car traders’ licence, as required under the Motor Car Traders Act 1986.

Westgate Metal Recycling Pty Ltd had placed at least 265 advertisements offering vehicles for sale including a Mitsubishi Lancer, Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore for up to $10,000. At least 14 were sold between 6 April and 1 August last year.

Many of the ads then invited customers to view the cars at the business’ Hoppers Crossing premises.

Westgate Metal Recycling consented to an injunction restraining it from trading in motor vehicles until it acquired a motor car traders’ licence.

Melbourne Magistrates Court issued a final injunction against Westgate Metal Recycling. The company must pay costs of $250.
