Our regulatory priorities for 2026–27 are now available, outlining the key risks and issues we will focus on to protect Victorian consumers and support fair and safe markets.
This year, Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) will prioritise 4 key areas:
Relieve cost of living pressures by preventing consumer exploitation
We’ll target unfair practices that can affect Victorians’ household budgets, including in fuel pricing, motor car sales, building and trades and urgent on-demand services.
Ensure fairness and safety in the rental market
We’ll focus on core rental obligations and serious or repeated non-compliance that puts vulnerable renters and residents at risk.
Uphold robust standards for key sectors, industries and professions
We’ll focus on compliance across key regulated industries and professions, including product safety, especially risks to kids, underquoting, and the new retirement village requirements. We’ll use the tools currently available to lift owners corporation manager conduct.
Support Victorians during emergencies
We’ll support impacted communities and respond to issues including rental problems, unregistered fundraising and fake tradies.
CAV Director Nicole Rich said the priorities help ensure enforcement activities focus on issues that present the greatest risk to consumers.
‘Our regulatory priorities set out how we will protect consumers and renters and reinforce regulatory requirements and obligations for businesses and individuals throughout the year,’ she said.
