Replacement water appliances, fittings and fixtures supplied by a landlord or caravan owner must have a minimum three-star water efficiency rating under the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Scheme (WELS Scheme).
Tenants and caravan park residents who arrange their own urgent repairs must also ensure any replacement appliances meet this requirement.
In limited exceptions, where the age, nature and structure of the plumbing means that a three-star appliance will not work, then a one or two-star appliance is permitted.
If a landlord or caravan owner installs a replacement water appliance, fitting or fixture that does not meet the required minimum efficiency rating, the tenant or resident can issue a breach of duty notice. For information on the Breach of duty process, view our When a tenant or landlord breaks the rules page.
