A Shepparton man has been convicted and fined $30,000 after pleading guilty to unlicensed motor car trading, in breach of the Motor Car Traders Act 1986.

We took action against Abdellatif Cheairi Bouiaji, 48, after our investigations revealed that he bought cars at a vehicle auction house and on-sold 48 of them between March 2016 and March 2017.

Generally, people in Victoria who deal in four or more cars per year need a motor car trader’s licence issued by the Business Licensing Authority.

The matter was heard at the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court. As well as the fine, Mr Bouiaji was ordered to pay our legal costs of $1,800.26.

The fine must be paid to the Motor Car Traders Guarantee Fund.
