Background
An Exposure Draft of the Owners Corporations and Other Acts Amendment Bill (the Bill) has been released for public consultation.
The Bill responds to issues raised by stakeholders during the Consumer Property Law Review. It includes a range of reforms outlined in Options Paper No. 1, which was released in November 2016.
Rather than introduce an entirely new Act, the Bill proposes a range of amendments to:
- the Owners Corporations Act 2006
- the Retirement Villages Act 1986, and
- Part 5 of the Subdivision Act 1988.
These laws govern the establishment, operation, functions and powers of owners corporations in Victoria.
The Bill also addresses a number of technical issues identified by Consumer Affairs Victoria and stakeholders.
Please note: as this is an Exposure Draft of the Bill, it may not reflect the final form of the government’s reform package, and could change before it is finalised and introduced into Parliament.
Subject to the satisfactory resolution of any issues raised during the consultation process, the Bill should be introduced into Parliament later in 2019.
